post Backups-My Plan of Action

I focus a lot on this backing up my data. I recently added some new hard drives to my backup server.

Any spare pc can be used as a backup server. It just has to have a decent sized hard drive, a network connection and an operating system that allows for shared folder. Once that is in place, just connect the pc to your network and share a folder on it. To backup your data, simply view that shared folder from your machine and copy your files to it. Its as simple as that!

I upgraded my backup server to hold 2 500gb serial ata hard drives. This machine is running windows 2003 server. I have an application on my main machine called AlwaySync. I have it set up to sync my main folder on my desktop, where i keep all my files, to another folder on my windows 2003 backup server. Whenever a change is made to one folder, the changes are automatically made to the other folder. The folder on my windows 2003 server machine which is used as a backup, is also backed up to an external 500gb hard drive that is connected to that machine. I let the windows 2003 server operating system take care of that since it has automated backup features. So think of it as a backup of my backups.

Anyways, that was just a bit of information on backups and my own backup routine. Hope this was helpful.
