Cucku-SocialBackup
July 29th, 2008

I’ve just recently began to follow the concept of cloud computing.
It’s the idea of having your data on the net, synced up with your local deskop and giving you access to data that is accessible and synchronized any where you go, as long as you have an internet connection.
Here comes an interesting concept at backing up your data. I’m a big fan of different methods of backups, as i think its most effective when done in layers.
What Cucku does it that it lets you create a p2p connection with one of your friends. It then allocates a portion of their hard drive space to store selected data from your machine. You select what you want backed up, and it is setup and kept in sync with the space allocated on your friends machine. It’s the idea of you scratch my back, i scratch yours.
It’s in the beta stage right now, but it is an interesting approach to backups.
Lets not forget that it does have it’s negatives as it will take up bandwidth, your friends pc has to be always on and hard drive space becomes an issue.
None the less, interesting to see how this develops.
